Custom Made
Made From Scratch, For One Person
A tallit bag is carried every morning for forty years. It is the first thing a man touches on the day he becomes bar mitzvah, and the thing his son will one day recognise on a shelf. It is worth making properly.
We build tallit and tefillin bags from nothing — cut, stitched, embroidered and finished by hand in the workshops we have chosen ourselves. Not a stock bag with a name added. A bag made to your specification, from the hide you picked, in the size you asked for.
What You Choose
- The leather. Chosen from the hides in stock at the time you order. Every batch is different, so we photograph what is actually available and you pick from those.
- The size. Tefillin medium or large, tallit medium, large (Chabad) or extra large (Chassidim), or a matched set. Any size in between is possible.
- The name. Embroidered in Hebrew or English, in the lettering and thread colour you prefer.
- The carry. Leather handles, or a nylon shoulder strap.
- The finishing. Lining, piping, hardware.
How It Works
1. Tell us what you have in mind. Email info@mitzvahart.com or send a WhatsApp to +1 314-943-7485. A rough idea is enough to start — occasion, who it is for, and roughly what you picture.
2. We show you the leather. We photograph the hides currently in stock and send them to you, with a quote for the piece as you have described it.
3. You approve. We confirm the size, the lettering and the finish in writing before anything is cut. Nothing begins until you have said yes to the details.
4. It is made. Allow 30 to 60 business days. This is hand work, and we would rather it take the time it takes.
5. It ships insured. Packed in double-layered protection, fully insured, with tracking.
Investment
Custom tallit and tefillin bags range from $350 to $850, depending on the hide, the size, the embroidery and whether you are commissioning a single bag or a matched set.
We will give you a firm price before any work begins. There are no surprises later.
Before You Commission
- Custom pieces are final sale — they are made for one person and cannot be resold.
- Order early. A bar mitzvah in April means commissioning in January.
- Leather is a natural material. Grain and tone vary across a hide, and that variation is the mark of a real one.
